"Carte Reduite donnant toutes les decouvertes faites dans Le Grand Ocean nomme aussi Ocean Pacifique ou Mer du Sud Par J.B. Poirson Ingenieur Geographe", dissected and mounted on linen. Fine large format map of the Pacific Ocean, published in Paris by Poirson.

The map is centered on Hawaii (Sandwich Islands) and retains the native names for the islands of New Zealand (T'Avi Poenanimoo and Eaheinomawe). Australia is still Nouvelle Hollande, with the Bass Strait now named, although the Gulf of St. Vincent (Josephine) and Spencer Gulf (Buonaparte) retain their French names. Port Philip is also named, as is Port Western (French Island, etc.). Most of the early Dutch and French names around the coastline remain.

This is a beautiful c.1835 manuscript map depicting Port Palliser and Christmas Harbor on the Kerguelen Islands or Desolation Islands. Essentially two maps on a single sheet, the left map features Port Palliser with smaller islands nearby, while the right map depicts Christmas Harbor. Throughout, depth soundings are noted. Latitude and longitude are also noted below each title. According to the text in the bottom right, this map is based on an earlier map from the publication of Cook's Third Voyage.
