DESCRIPTION:
Engraving depicting Pompeii. An ancient city located in what is now Pompeii near Naples in the Campania region of Italy. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the vicinity (e.g. at the Boscoreale, Stabiae), were buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) thick volcanic ash and pumice during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
