DESCRIPTION:

Study of a male figure seen from behind. A facsimile of the drawing attributed to Raphael on the plate was previously thought to be an earlier sketch of the male figure seen from behind standing on the altar steps in the Disputa (Disputation of the Blessed Sacrament), painted by Raphael in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican between 1508 and 1511. Letters with date of manufacture and details of manufacture lower right, and Raphael's name lower left. According to Ruland (1876), the facsimile was made by Count Morys, and the original drawing was then untraced.
