Stephan Fridolin. Full-page woodcut (Christ's disrobing) incunable sheet from "Treasury of true riches of salvation", Anton Koberger, Nuremberg, 1491. The beautiful woodcut after Michael Wolgemuth (1434-1519) and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (1460-1494): The 68th figure: Christ is in the center and is forcibly undressed by a henchman. Behind him stand three henchmen in a semicircle around him, pointing lance, club and halberd at him. Finally, the group is delimited to the rear by three escorting soldiers, while two more henchmen with hammer and nails approach from the left and two spectators from the right, from whom the bearded one will be identified as Pilate. Finally, one sees behind Christ a soldier pressing the crown of thorns onto the head of the bare man with a club (D. Bartl 2010). - The Treasure Keeper is the only work by Fridolin that was published in printed form during his lifetime... is considered a high point in the history of the Nuremberg printing works. (Of the rare works are) today almost 140 copies verifiable worldwide.
