This beautiful antique engraving by Ulrik Thresher originate from the work ”Fordna och närvarande Sverige” (La Suède ancienne et moderne), published in Stockholm, 1828-1867.
Ulrik Thersner (1779-1828) was a Swedish military officer and artist, known for his work "Fordna och närvarande Sverige." Beginning his naval career at seven during Gustav III's Russian War, he rose to sergeant and ensign in the Army's navy by 1799. Appointed as an information officer in 1804, he conducted hydrographic surveys in Bohuslän and later joined the Surveying Corps, where he became a lieutenant in 1808. Thersner played significant roles in campaigns against Norway (1808-09) and the Finnish War, and was promoted to major in the Surveying Brigade in 1814.
