DESCRIPTION:
Portrait of Willem van Nassau-Siegen (1592-1642) was the Count of Nassau-Siegen (part of the County of Nassau). He was descended from the House of Nassau-Siegen, a branch of the Ottonian line of the House of Nassau. He was first employed by the Hanseatic League of the Republic of Venice, and later served as an officer in the States Army, where he later rose to the rank of field marshal. He was also successively governor of Emmerick, Heusden and Sluice. Willem bought the seigniory of Poederoijen aan de Maas.
