Portrait of Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm of Bavaria - was Prince Regent of the Kingdom of Bavaria from 1886 until his death; first for three days for his nephew King Ludwig II, then for his mentally ill brother Otto I. Although his reign caused a great cultural boom in Munich, for Bavaria it meant a gradual retreat of Bavaria's interests to those of the German Empire.
