DESCRIPTION:
Portrait of Etienne Clavier (1735 - 1793) Genevan and French politician. He was a city councilor in Geneva; moving to France, he was an employee of Mirabeau. In March 1792 the Girondins insisted on his appointment as Minister of Finance, together with Roland, Servan and others, in the so-called "patriotic ministry"; in June this ministry was disbanded. Clavier joined the struggle against the Paris Commune and the Montagnards and was involved in the death of the Gironde.
