DESCRIPTION:
Portrait of Claude Fauchet (1744-1793) French priest and politician; deputy of the revolutionary National Assembly, who protested against the execution of the king. Before the revolution, he was vicar of the archbishop in Bourges and court preacher. During the storming of the Bastille he was among the besiegers; On August 5, 1789, he delivered a eulogy for those killed on July 14, which made a splash, ending with an enthusiastic praise of freedom. He died on the guillotine.
