James Sowerby was an English naturalist and illustrator born in 1757 and died in 1822. He is best known for his extensive work in botanical illustration, particularly in his publication "English Botany." Sowerby produced thousands of detailed and accurate illustrations of plants, which were highly valued for their scientific precision. His contributions significantly advanced the study of British flora and made botanical knowledge more accessible.
