Antique Poster - "Le Pays de L'or" - Louis Lemaresquier - Circus Art - 1890’s
DESCRIPTION:
Poster "Le Pays de L'or" (The Land of Gold), circa 1890’s. Circus art, coloured, pasted on cardboard. Author Louis Lemaresquier. The poster shows bicycle art, the main figure here is a woman. The reason so many women feature in the early ads is because a bicycle symbolized freedom of mobility without having to rely on transportation provided by a spouse. Another little known fact is that both the bicycle manufacturers and farmers were aligned at this time for the promotion of better roads. Cyclists to ride, and farmers to bring product to market.
